Tax-free agencies such as Global Blue and Planet Tax Free generally accept Visa and Mastercard credit cards and debit-equivalent cards issued by major banks as the refund destination, but they do not support store-value prepaid cards. Pionex-issued Visa and Mastercard cards meet this requirement and can be used as your refund receiving card.
The refund card does not have to match the card you paid with — but the name must match
You can pay for your purchase with cash or a different card, and still enter your Pionex Card as the refund receiving card on the tax refund form — the two do not need to be the same card. However, the cardholder name on the refund receiving card must exactly match the passport name used to process the tax refund. You cannot use your own passport to process a refund and have the funds sent to a travel companion's card.
Other things to keep in mind
Customs/kiosk validation before leaving is mandatory. Even if you already completed an in-store early refund or had the tax deducted at checkout, you must still validate the refund form at the airport customs counter or a self-service kiosk (e.g. eTRS) before leaving the country (or the EU). If this step is skipped, the tax-free agency will not only reclaim the refund from your card but may also charge a substantial penalty fee.
Refund crediting typically takes about 3-5 business days up to a few weeks. Make sure your receiving card stays active during this period; if the card is lost or frozen while a refund is pending, proactively let us know so we can help.
The tax-free agency converts the refund using its own exchange rate (dynamic currency conversion), which may differ slightly from your bank's daily quoted rate.
